BIPOLAR GENERAL | GENERAL GREGG MARTIN

Dec 26, 2023

Montel speaks with General Gregg Martin, author of The Bipolar General, on this episode of Free Thinking. Bipolar disorder is a brutal and destructive disease that indiscriminately affects the lives, health, marriages, families, careers, finances, and friendships of some 5–10 million Americans each year, including veterans and active military service members. Those with bipolar disorder can end up as alcoholics, drug addicts, homeless or in prison, and as victims of suicide. General Martin made a grueling multiyear recovery thanks to his own desire to get better. The Bipolar General is an important book and the first of its kind in telling the story of an Army general officer who was struck down and then recovered from bipolar disorder. He is a United States Army two-star general who retired as the Special Assistant to the Chief of Engineers in 2014. He was the President of the prestigious National Defense University and prior to that he served as the Commandant of the U.S. Army War College. He was second in command for 3rd Army/US Army Central in the Central Command Area of Responsibility, including support operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, and across the CENTCOM region and he led a complex enterprise of four major schools that educated, trained and developed thousands of soldiers, marines, airmen, sailors and civilians for leadership roles in global operations as the Commanding General at the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence.
